Art 35: Rheadwyn

More Bound to the Flame — this time Rheadwyn, veteran fighter. This came out perhaps a bit more colourful and young than I would have liked. Lookit all them Celtic knots, huh.

  1. WOW! I absolutely love it! THIS IS AMAZING!!!
Wait until Iris sees what her character looks like! X-D THIS IS SO AWESOME I HAVE TO USE A BUNCH OF CAPITALS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!

    • Haha, glad you like it! It took me the better part of six hours at least, but I guess it was time well spent. I really love drawing characters like this, which makes me obsess over the details — her pendant matching her sword blade, for instance — which really pays off. πŸ˜€ Let me know if you’d like me to do another one of Rheadwyn, I’d love to explore her stances more!

      • Awesome! Interestingly, Rheadwyn was the healer who attended Rowan after his crippling injury… and she’s also the unnamed knight who brought Margery to the castle when Margery was caught trespassing. πŸ˜‰ So could you do one of her in her capacity as healer? (I’m thinking of her kind of in the same light as Aragorn, except her knowledge of healing is a little closer to Elrond’s. πŸ˜‰ )

        • Ah, yes, I think I get it. Something like that scene in the extended Return of the King, where Aragorn Makes Eowyn Not Die in some mysterious way.

          • Well, it wasn’t really the wound that was Eowyn’s problem. She was dying due to the touch of the Nazgul. Athelas, a plant that was originally from Numenor and has great healing powers, was able to counteract her ailment (which they called the Black Breath in the book. πŸ˜‰ )
I wish there was athelas and mithril and elanor in our world. I’ve never seen a mallorn but I would love to see one.

            • Hah, yeah — the closest we’ve come to mallorn are birches in the fall πŸ™‚ I guess that we could plant a whole forest of birch around a river, and then we’d have a sort of LΓ³rien…*sigh*.
You know, it’s kind of funny how in the movie, they only showed Aragorn healing Eowyn of the Nazgul’s touch, but not Merry, even though he’d spent pretty much the entire previous movie trying to save Merry’s ass…And then suddenly, he’s like, ‘Nope, not interested’. Although they kinda sorta had Pippin look after him after that, so…I dunno, it’s a bit weird. :/

              • Yeah… It could partly be because they want Merry to seem more recovered, because Merry is going to be in “The Final Battle”, while Eowyn… though she’s awesome… isn’t. But hey, she already killed the Witch King of Angmar! πŸ˜›

  2. I’m working on the next chapter of “Bound to the Flame”… can you do a drawing of Queen Melilana? She’s kind of like Galadriel in the Silmarillion (she’s a womanly woman who stands with the men, and is willing to defend her kingdom herself if necessary.) I’ve always pictured her as having eyes similar to Rowan’s and being very tall, with long blonde or brown hair (I’m not sure which) which is pulled back from her face a bit like Eowyn’s is. She’s older than she looks, too. πŸ˜‰
